Product Information:

Venting liquid filled gauges

Autometer's liquid filled gauges have a vent screw on top of the gauge's housing. Internal pressure can change because of altitude, barometric pressure, or temperature. This causes an inaccurate or off zero reading on more sensitive low pressure gauges. To prevent this, it's recommended that the gauge be vented. With the vent screw in the upright position, turn the screw two turns counterclockwise to equalize the gauge case pressure. This allows the gauge to breathe and self adjust. Then re-tighten the screw.

Do NOT over tighten the vent screw! Over tightening the screw WILL damage the threads of the gauge's housing.

This gauge includes 6 feet of capillary tubing. You CAN NOT shorten the tubing! It is filled with ether gas. When the gas expands, the needle on the gauge rises.

Autometer's mechanical radiator coolant temperature gauges include the 2273 1/2" NPT pipe thread adapter fitting. Towards the top edge of the probe, there's a tapered seat that gets compressed between the 2273 adapter fitting and the 5/8-18 tube nut (usually blue).
Autometer 2273 adapter fitting with capillary tubing
Autometer does offer other adapter fittings depending on your needs. The tube nut on the tubing MUST push the probe against an adapter fitting. That is how the probe seals correctly. From underneath the tube nut to the end of the probe is roughly 1-5/8". If that is too long, Autometer does have the 2270 and 2271 extensions (sold separately).

Adapter fittings (sold separately except for the 2273):
  • 2263 3/8" NPT brass adapter (same as 2272 but brass)
  • 2272 3/8" NPT aluminum adapter (same as 2263 but aluminum)
  • 2271 3/8" NPT brass extension

  • 2264 1/2" NPT brass adapter (same as 2273 but brass)
  • 2273 1/2" NPT aluminum adapter (same as 2264 but aluminum)
  • 2270 1/2" NPT brass extension

  • 2275 16mm 1.5 adapter
  • 2261 Weld on steel bung adapter
