Kartek Off-Road 18-3/4" 33 Spline Chromoly IRS Axles For Bus Trans Stk Bug Arms 5.75" Wider Torsion

For stock length VW beetle trailing arms on a sand rail buggy that's using a three rib 002 or six rib 091 BUS transmission and a 5-3/4" wider torsion housing. These American made 4340 Chromoly IRS axles are specially designed for the needs of today's off-road racers.

Way back in the day, people used to take a stock bug torsion housing and widen it 5-3/4" in the center. They left the trailing arm pivot points in the stock location and used stock bug trailing arms. They would then use 24-11/16" long torsion bars with spring plates that were designed for 21-3/4" long torsion bars to make up for the 2-15/16" extra width per side.

18-3/4" was also the stock length for Type 2 bus IRS from 1968 to 1979 manual transmissions, which is likely what people had laying around when they did the 5-3/4" wider bug torsion housing.

The VW Type 1 Bug and Type 2 Bus, both used the same 33 spline on their axles. With the above conversion axles, you can run bus CV joints at the transmission and bug or bus CV joints at the wheel. If you want to run bus CV's on the wheel side, you'll also need purchase adapter stub axles.
