EMPI 16-3158-0 Weld On Shifter Box Radiused For 1-1/2" Tubing For OEM Style Beetle Shifters

This shifter mount works with the OEM 111-701-259-A bug shift rod bushing or the EMPI 16-5101-0 urethane shift rod bushing (a shift rod bushing is NOT included). Both of those bushings use a 7/8" shift rod. The box is intended for use with an OEM style 4 speed beetle shifter from Bugpack, EMPI, Gene Berg Enterprises, Hurst Performance, Latest Rage or Scat Drag Fast. Parallel to the box and perpendicular to the box, the bottom edge is radiused for 1-1/2" tubing. Usually this box comes powder coated black.

Normally customers use 7/8" x 0.065" wall tubing to make their shift rod. They cut the cup off of an OEM beetle's shift rod and weld that to the front side of the shift rod. For the transmission side, you'll weld on a 16-2070-0 or 17-2724-0 adjustable shift rod tip, then use an early or late model VW shift coupler to connect to the transmission.

We don't sell 7/8" x 0.065" wall but we do sell a slightly thicker 7/8" x 0.095" wall tubing for strength. If you use 0.095" wall, you'll have to grind out the end of the pipe for the 16-2070-0 or 17-2724-0 to fit into it.
