This box is intended for use with an OEM style 4 speed beetle shifter from Bugpack, EMPI, Gene Berg Enterprises, Hurst Performance, Latest Rage or Scat Drag Fast. Parallel to the box and perpendicular to the box, the bottom edge is radiused for 1-1/2" tubing. Usually this box comes powder coated black.
The box includes the cup socket that the ball on the bottom of the shifter goes into. The front and back of the internal linkage is supported by 1/2" ID x 1" OD uniballs (included). Any of the uniballs listed below will also work as a replacement.
The smooth portion of the coupler on the back is 5/8". Normally customers use 3/4" x 0.065" wall tubing to make their shift rod because it should have a 5/8" inside diameter. They take the smooth 5/8" portion of the coupler, insert that into the pipe and weld it. If the shifter is offset in relation to the transmission's hockey stick, you can also use a Sweet Mfg. SWT0608 universal joint at the shifter to go from 5/8" to 3/4". For the transmission side, you'll weld on a Sweet Mfg. SWT0635 universal joint, then connect that to the hockey stick on the transmission.
