These aluminum vice soft jaws allow you to use a bench vice or hydraulic press to firmly hold a shock shaft in place while working on the shock. The jaws will help prevent damage to the shaft. They fit a 1", 1-1/4" or 1-5/8" diameter shaft. Great for anyone rebuilding shocks, changing the shock's bottom end loops / eyelets, or changing bump stop pads. The jaws are 4" wide. If you're working on a hydraulic bump stop with a stroke less than 4", then you'll have to cut these jaws down to fit between the bottom wiper cap and the bump stop pad holder.
Also keep in mind that a bump stop and air shock have a hollow shaft. The male thread of the bump pad holder or air shock end loop threads into the shaft. If you clamp down too hard, you'll prevent the pad holder / end loop from threading out of the shaft. Or, worst-case scenario, you crush the hollow shaft from clamping it with too much force.
