SWAY-A-WAY Product Disclaimer. All Sway-A-Way products are sold "as is" and all sales are final. No returns, exchanges, or refunds will be accepted. By purchasing Sway-A-Way products, you acknowledge and agree to these terms and assume full responsibility for the proper use and installation of the product.

Some torsion bars won't quite fit into the torsion housing or spring plate. Do NOT try to hammer the torsion bar into the torsion housing or the spring plate onto the torsion bar. Instead, Sway-A-Way recommends using emery sandpaper to sand off about 0.002" of the spline's outside diameter. Product Information:

Our torsion bars are available in three different lengths and 24mm to 30mm diameters to allow you to choose the right spring rate for any given application. 4340 chromoly torsion bars are commonly used on drag racing VW's and offroad racing buggies.

Keep in mind that the amount of leverage you apply to the torsion bar will change your ride quality. VW IRS using aftermarket 3x3 or 3x5 trailing arms for example, apply more leverage on the torsion bar than stock IRS trailing arms. The diameter of the torsion bar increases to compensate for the extra leverage you're applying to the suspension system.

The OEM Volkswagen part number for the 24mm diameter x 627mm long rear torsion bars was 111-511-111-A and was listed to fit mid 1952 to 1959 Beetles.
