Description
Supersedes Howe Part Number 210
This pump MUST be used with Howe's 210-1101 power steering relief valve.
When you install a pulley (using a GM pulley installer), you'll notice that the pulley's hub is wider than the length of the shaft sticking out of this TC pump. Most of the pulleys that we sell have a 0.960" hub width. The shaft on this new style pump with the visible seal, is roughly 0.840" long.
When you use a GM pulley installer to pull the pump into the pulley, do not make the shaft flush with the face of the pulley. The pulley's shaft should be roughly 0.180" down on the new style pumps, which should give you about 0.060" gap between the backside of the pulley and the pump's seal.
On new style pumps that have a seal directly behind the pulley, it's extremely important to make sure there's a gap between the pulley and the seal so the pulley doesn't wear a hole into the seal. See photo below.

The pump's shaft should sit slightly below the edge of the pulley. Do not make the shaft flush with the face of the pulley. When you tighten down the nut on the GM pulley installer, if you accidentally go too far, on the other end of the pump's shaft is a tiny clip that could break off of the shaft.
 
Important Note: NEVER use a hydraulic press to install your pulley. Using a press will crush the back side of your power steering pump. Use a GM pulley installer. The GM installer threads into the front of the pump and pulls the pump into the pulley.
