This adapter is required if you're running a tachometer and the Compu Fire DIS-IX Distributorless Ignition System. On a standard VW distributor you would run the tachometer signal wire to the negative side of the coil. But on a coil pack system there isn't a negative terminal for you to run your tach to. That's why this adapter is required.
